Dr. Susan Ridley, Associate Professor of Creative Arts Therapy at West Liberty University and Chair of the Department of Art Therapy and Counseling. She has a Ph.D. in Expressive Therapies from Lesley University (2012), an MA in Mental Health Counseling and Art Therapy from Caldwell University (2017), and a MSc in Human Services from Springfield College (2002). She is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), National Certified Counselor (NCC), Certified Prevention Specialist (CPS), a Certified Psychiatric Rehabilitation Practitioner (CPRP), Activities Director Certified (ADC), a Registered Expressive Arts Therapist (REAT), and Board-Certified Art Therapist (ATR-BC). Susan moved to West Virginia in August 2018 to take up the post of Assistant Professor of Creative Arts Therapy at West Liberty University. She developed the graduate Art Therapy and Counseling program which was launched in 2021. Susan feels it is very important to create legacy by “passing on the torch of knowledge and experience” to aspiring art therapists and counselors so they can in turn provide a service of healing to their community. She has over 35 years’ experience working with diverse communities of various ages and abilities and disabilities. She has worked with those suffering from chronic disease, substance abuse problems, mental health issues, developmental disabilities, and physical impairments.
